I've given up two chapters in. God gets mentioned every few paragraphs and all of her case studies seem to focus on televangelists.

I find that books on setting up your own business generally fall into two categories:1: Anyone can do it! It's SO easy! Follow your passion and you will become rich beyond your wildest dreams!Or2: Entrepreneurs are born, not made. You have to have that sacred "gift" to cut it on your own. What I love about this book is it busts both those myths out of the water. Carrie has an incredibly engaging style - it really is like having a personal coach, guiding you every step of the way from thinking about setting up your own business, to doing it.....and beyond. She doesn't just look at the practical whys and wherefores (although when she does, these are superb in their richness of information); she takes the reader on a personal journey, exploring WHY you want to set up your business and the mindset that can support you in that.....and the ones that can get in your way. She has a wonderful "tough love" approach - you get the sense she is personally encouraging you forward but will absolutely tell it how it is when you need to hear it. No, you WON'T get rich quick overnight. No, it ISN'T simply about following your passion - although that helps, of course. This is about mindful, practical, consistent actions which have to be taken in order to reap the rewards. After every 4 or 5 pages there is either a personal exercise to go through, or a case study to read and consider, so this isn't simply a business text book, it becomes a living, breathing personal guide taking you forward step after step. This type of business book has been a long time coming and I'm delighted it's here. Bravo, Carrie - you're just what the world has been waiting for!

Go do a business degree if you want to study business.Read this book if you want to be doing business.(that's my opinion as someone who has a business and a degree in business)Carrie's unique blend of inspiring encouragement and down to earth butt-kicking style makes this book really great fun to read, easy to apply and compelling to actually get down to the action of DOING business rather than simply thinking and theorising about it.Whether you're on the brink of starting or you've been in business for a while, this book is packed with practical, doable and inspirational tips, strategies and examples. Highly recommended.
